When I read the book The New Information Professional it really demystified the idea of what the information field was all about. As part of my job, I often have to articulate that it's not all about librarians and try to communicate the marketability of an information degree. I even think of journalists as information professionals and most definitely my work in web content creation "counts" as being an info scientist. Here's an interactive infographic I wrote, sketched and our wonderful designer created to give you an idea of the different fields that can be categorized as information careers.
